Hello my name is Luke and I’m hoping to represent NZ at Adaptive Surf Champs in California at the end of this month.
Auckland
For those of you wondering - adaptive is someone who is missing a limb or with partial to complete loss of sight. I was born without a left hand.
Competitive adaptive surfing is in its infancy in NZ but there’s a real urgency to develop our sport to ultimately compete at the LA Paralympics.
Recent administrative developments mean that it is critical New Zealand has a representative attending these Adaptive Surfing Champs in California.
Never in a million years did I think I'd ever have an opportunity like this. It gives me a huge sense of pride and a real desire to share this experience so a huge thank you in advance to anyone who makes a donation.
If there are any companies out there keen to offer support please do get in touch at eyemac@xtra.co.nz.
For those of you keen to follow my adventure, I'll be posting daily videos on the Adaptive Surfers Facebook page.
Event details can be found at https://www.isasurf.org/events/isa-world-adaptive-surfing-championship/
While my goal is obviously to win its equally important I create contacts and opportunities for future adaptive surfers wanting to compete at these international events.
