10 days, 1000 km, 35 wild Mongolian horses and 2 charities.
Bay of Plenty
Hi I’m Ben; keen adventurer, animal lover, and conservationist.
This August I’m embarking on the worlds longest and toughest horse race – The Mongol Derby. I’ll be riding semi wild horses for 10 days, over 1000km of Mongolian wilderness.
I’m taking on this incredible adventure as a challenge to test myself, and also to raise awareness and funds for two charities which I am passionate about.
Kiwi Care team are a group of volunteer vets, nurses, farriers and equine dentists who provide education and first aid to working animals in need around the world. The work that they do in countries like Fiji, Egypt and India helps thousands of working donkeys and horses in need, which then helps their owners, communities and villages who rely so heavily on these animals.
Cool Earth are the charity that work alongside indigenous villages to save rainforests from destruction. To date they’ve protected 500,000 acres of rainforest which was due to destruction by putting it back in the hands of the indigenous people, to protect and preserve. The work that they do goes a long way to preserving our earth for future generations, whilst also protecting the animals living in these rainforests, and ensuring the sustainability of these indigenous villages
I’ll be raising a minimum of $1000 for each of these respective charities, and am also looking for financial assistance for my entry fee to the Mongol Derby, and equipment costs.
If you’d like to talk to me about potential sponsorship for this adventure, please don’t hesitate to contact me: ben.wilks@hotmail.co.nz

Animal welfare and conservation are in my blood; from a young age I've been taught to respect the earth and it's many creatures.
As a qualified animal technician and keen farmer I get to see the impact that working animals have on our agricultural industry every day. The reliance we have on our animals and land is huge, and is amplified so much more in developing countries which makes the work that Kiwi Care Team and Cool Earth do, so much more important.
I feel so privileged to have the opportunity to team up with these incredible causes to make a difference to the lives of people and animals around the world.
