Akitio icon and loved home of George and Muriel razed

$4,280 donated

Assistance will help George and Muriel Cowan return home to live at Akitio after the tragic loss of their house.

Hawke's Bay

Muriel and George Cowan have lost their much loved home at Akitio Beach from a fire. Not a great 12 months as they have both had serious health hassles.

George 81 and Muriel 77 are superannuitants.

Their house was still known affectionately as the boarding house. A very interesting range of people have stayed there since it was built circa 1910. They include boundary riders because many of the large properties were not fenced, teachers, artists including Lindauer, wool classers, saw millers, fishermen and of course holiday makers.

George and Muriel's insurance cover is very limited so any little bit of help would be useful and appreciated.

Gail Munro's involvement (page creator)

I am a friend of Muriel and George and know their house burning down is the last straw for a couple who are experiencing significant health issues. I want to help raise funds for them so they can rebuild their lives at Akitio Beach.

Use of funds

Any funds raised will be used to either purchase a relocatable house or to rebuild suitable accommodation at Akitio Beach. Any surplus funds raised will go to the Akitio community centre.
