Hi I'm Alex, from Wellington New Zealand.

This year I'll be taking on an adventure of a lifetime.

I’m going to be part of crew that will be racing a 70 foot Yacht across the Atlantic Ocean between UK South America and South Africa

My day job is working in an office with a remarkable group of scientists, engineers planners and architects. We help design and build infrastructure for our community and future generations.

I started only socially sailing just over a year ago, locally on our beautiful harbour.

The size of the Atlantic Ocean in comparison is a huge step up.

I'm doing this challenge to test my level of resilience and also raise another voice for the future generations of New Zealand

I have been lucky to have an education, and learn about the beautiful environment in which we live, in order to give back.

Many of our future generation do not have access to basic education-this needs to change.

I would love your support this year in preparation for this adventure. I will be training physically and mentally, and learning how to be a sailor-I would like to share this with you.

Use of funds

Your generous donation will go towards the costs associated with three training weeks in Sydney Australia (level 1-3) and one training week in Gosport UK (level 4) as part of the Clipper Round the World Race requirements. Your donations will also go to the costs of the race itself to cover for safety, fees and skippers. Funds will also help towards investment in sailing kit such as wet weather and safety gear, physical training in NZ and flights from NZ to the training locations.

Race date and change of start port annouced - Liverpool 20 August 2017 10 May 2017

It is time for the announcement that everyone has been waiting for-especially me! The historic maritime city of Liverpool is officially confirmed as the Start and Finish partner of the Clipper 2017-18 Race, with Race Start day set for Sunday 20 August 2017.

I am becoming slowly a seaworthy participant that adapts to change and with this announcement will just add to the excitement and test of planning logistics and funding the race.

You also can join in the festivities and welcome the Clipper Race fleet when it arrives in Liverpool on Monday 14 August. Events and activities will be held throughout the week leading up to Race Start, with a full schedule of all the entertainment to be released in the coming months. I will love to see some friendly faces in the crowd when we leave for the Atlantic crossing on August 20th.
