Alfred Dela-Pena 2024 Table Tennis World Championship Fundraiser
Auckland
Waitemata Table Tennis (WTTA) is the home of Table Tennis in West Auckland and has a brand new international standard stadium in Parr’s Park, Henderson. WTTA players Alfred Dela-Pena has qualified to represent New Zealand at the 2024 World Team Table Tennis Championships scheduled to be held in Busan, South Korea from 16 to 25 February 2024. Quarterfinalists of the 2024 World Championships will be qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics
New Zealand have been drawn in a pool with hosts Korea, India, Poland and Chile.
On top of training and competing, Alfred has been supporting our club on our executive committee, mentoring younger players, running our weekly West Auckland school’s team competition, casual night sessions and junior coaching.
There is almost no funding in NZ to support high performance Table Tennis players. For the past 10+ years Alfred has his own costs for training and competition, with the support and donation from the public, the WTTA and sponsors.
The trip to Korea is estimated to cost $5200 per player
Waitemata Table Tennis is actively fundraising to help Alfred and we are seeking donations and/or sponsorship for them.
Any support you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Alfred is a member of Waitemata Table Tennis and is our head coach.

Thanks to everyone that donated 18 February 2024
Thanks to everyone that donated. Alfred has safely arrived in the Republic of Korea for the 2024 ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals in Busan.
The team consists of:
1. Timothy Choi
2. Alfred Dela-Pena (Waitemata)
3. Max Henderson
Coach: Yantao (Daniel) Wei
The journey to get there wasn’t as simple as hopping on a plane. The team was selected in late 2023, and a coach was appointed thereafter. Yantao Wei initiated a training program for the team in early 2024 at the Tornado Table Tennis Club on the North Shore. The costs for the coach were covered by TTNZ, and the players had to source their own funding to attend the event.
The tournament runs from February 16th to 25th. The team departed Wednesday afternoon and arrived late on the same day in Busan. Thursday will be a practice day before their first match against Chile on Friday. They are placed in a tough group comprising five teams, which also includes the hosts Korea Republic, India, and Poland. The NZ team will play one match a day.
The matches will be streamed on Youtube.
