Help Maree and Bevan support their daughter Alice while she is in Wellington Hospital with bacterial meningitis of the brain.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Alice is a very vibrant cheeky 17 year old with her whole life ahead of her, she has developed bacterial meningitis of the brain, she was flown to Wellington Hospital late Monday night, September 17th and had emergency surgery to release the pressure on her brain caused by the swelling this infection has caused. Her blood pressure was extremely low while her heart rate was very high. She has also had heart and lung problems due to this terrible bacteria.
This has been such a shock for all the family and has happened extremely fast. Alice is in the best place and hope she continues to fight with all she has in her.
My good friend Maree's daughter is in Wellington Hospital with bacterial meningitis in the brain, she is only 17 yrs old. I have known the family for over ten years.
If you would like to help this loving family at such a difficult time, any donations would go towards travel, accommodation, food and anything else they may require while Alice attempts to fight this terrible infection.
Alice's improving condition 23 September 2018
Alice is breathing on her own, is aware but gets tired very quickly. The infection on her brain looks to be called encephalitis this has possibly given Alice a mini stroke as she is paralyzed on her left side (arm/leg), but with rehab will improve. She has short term memory loss which we hope will also improve over time. She is looking at 3 to 6 months of rehabilitation but currently still in the ICU due to the fact her skull is still open. She is continuing to fight like only Alice can and doing remarkably well considering what she has been through so far. Maree and Bevan also remain in wgtn to support Alice, putting all her needs before their own.
