Rallying together to help beloved principal Ally Gibbs access life-saving cancer treatment
Auckland
Kia ora koutou,
Many of you will know my Aunty Ally Gibbs as the much-loved principal of Mulberry Grove School. For years she has been a pillar of the Great Barrier community, supporting students, families and the wider island
Following a recent cancer diagnosis, the time has come for the community she has given so much to, to rally around her.
After chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Ally’s oncology team has recommended a treatment called Durvalumab, which offers real hope and the potential to cure the cancer. Sadly, it is not currently funded by Pharmac. While medical insurance will cover the administration cost of treatment the drug itself costs around $16,000 per month, though her team are hoping this may be reduced to around $60,000 per year.
Like many who have spent their lives helping others, asking for help doesn’t come easily. But this treatment could change everything. Ally will need monthly infusions for the next two years, and every contribution no matter how small helps bring this life-saving treatment within reach.
If you know Ally, chances are she has touched your life in some way. Now we have the chance to give something back.
Even a small donation can make a powerful difference. If 60,000 people gave just $1, it would cover a year of treatment a reminder of what a community can do when everyone gives a little.
If you can donate or share this page, it would mean the world to Ally and her whānau.
Ngā mihi nui thank you for your kindness and support.
