To raise awareness and to express my admiration for my friend’s courage and strength, I have decided to shave my hair off to fundraise.

Dear family and friends,
the reason for this post is Alopecia areata - an autoimmune disease that makes your hair fall out due to your body destroying its own hair follicles. Its causes are speculated to be stress, genetics, traumatic experiences, and environmental factors. Fortunately, it is not lethal. However, there is no cure for it. To combat further hair loss, it is advised to take steroids with no guarantee that the hair will actually grow back.
Recently, one of my close friends was diagnosed with Alopecia after suffering from hair loss for months. Her hair went all the way down past her shoulders before she chose to get it shaved off, a decision that doesn’t come easy to anyone who’s never had to consider it in the first place. It takes a massive toll on one’s confidence and self-conception, especially if unsure about what is happening to and within your body.
She was my flatmate but we shared a bunch of interests and quickly became close friends. I'm raising money for her because she means a lot to me and I want to show my support and admiration for her strength and courage.
I have decided to fundraise for my friend. She’s had to see various skin specialists and has had to go to the hospital many a time, so the money will hopefully cover some of what she’s had to spend on hospital appointments and doctor’s visits.
