Help sponsor an alpaca rescue mission. We are raising funds to rescue 10 alpacas living in desperate conditions.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Please help us rescue 10 neglected alpacas. They were once well cared for, but their owners lost interest some time ago and have left them to indiscriminately breed and have not tended to their welfare. These poor animals have very little to eat and only have drinking water due to a compassionate neighbour, they have not received any veterinary care even when one broke its leg, another drown in a drain, orphaned crias have been left to die, and the list of offences goes on. There have been many preventable deaths in this herd as a result.
Please help us raise the funds necessary to transport these animals to us, where we can provide them with sanctuary and the care they deserve. We have a 10 acre property outside of Palmerston North that is perfect for alpacas with hills, treed areas, bush, stream, and lots of grazing. We take in rescued farm animals and those needing to be rehomed. To date we have taken in pigs, chickens, alpacas, and goats. We hope to eventually establish ourselves as a non-profit sanctuary and offer various educational and outreach programs.
Any additional funds raised will go to help pay for any veterinary care required, supplementary feed, and shearing.
Thank you in advance for helping us to help these alpacas!
I'm involved in this rescue because these animals need our help.
THE ALPACAS HAVE ARRIVED! 20 July 2016
Thank you all so much for your incredible support. We were so encouraged by the steady flow of donations, that we got the alpacas transported here at the end of last week. They are beautiful animals and though quite timid for the first couple of days, they are quickly becoming more confident and are now coming toward the kids and me when they see us enter their paddock with treats and hay:)
We had the vet out on Monday and she assessed all of them. The overall report is that they are all in pretty good shape, which is wonderful news and surprising considering they were left with hardly anything to eat and others were left dead in the paddock.
Though we had initially been led to believe that there were 10 alpacas in need, we ended up receiving 9, including two babies and one female. The two babies (known as cria) are probably around 6 months old and are doing well. We have separated the female out and added her to our existing herd of females and wethers.
Our children have enjoyed naming them. So on behalf of Whistle, Fog, Rudolph, Manny, Magic, Nemo, Squirt, Bambi, and Tui, thank you all again for your generosity!
