Kumeu couple need our help, Mandy & Mark Stokes
Auckland
My sisters husband Mark recently had stroke, followed shortly by a second stroke and heart attack, leading to the closure of their business Kumeu Farm Kills and the loss of their only source of income, they have always been there for others and now I hope others will be there for them in their time of need.
Just after christmas 2014 Mark had a stroke. Was home for two weeks after spending a month in hospital and rehab. Then on Valentines day 2015 he had a 2nd more serious stroke which resulted in him going into cardiac arrest and spending 4 days in a coma in ICU.
He has now been in North Shore hospital for 7 weeks and counting but is making a slow yet positive recovery. We are now waiting on funding to get him into a rehab that will further help him recover. It still may be sometime before he is back home with us.
With proper rehab he should recover about 70% of his normal every day to day functions like speech, memory, eating and walking.
All funds raised will go towards getting the house more accessible for his return home as even with the first stroke he had trouble with day to day tasks. The bathroom/shower was totally unusable for him and stairs into the house difficult for him to manoeuvre.
Im involved as Amanda's older brother and hate to see the struggle they are having to go through
Thank you so much Gayle and Larry. Mark is doing a great job. He is walking now and talking is coming on very good to. Hoping to be in rehab soon. You don't know how much this means to us. Again thank you so much.
Thank you.
