Ameka is battling stage 3 cervical cancer—help ease her financial burden so she can focus on surviving and caring for her son.

$20,880 of $25,000 goal
Given by 205 generous donors in around 3 months

Six weeks ago, Ameka received a devastating diagnosis. Fully vaccinated & screened, supposedly “too young” to have this aggressive disease.

Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui

As a single mum to 3-year-old Jake & the owner of a hair salon in Palmerston North, she’s facing a tough journey. Treatment involves 7 weeks of radiation & chemotherapy, including 2 weeks of brachytherapy, followed by at least 6 weeks recovery. With the treatment only available in Wellington, it adds travel, accommodation, & childcare costs on top of other medical related expenses. Separation from her family & community, the strain of long-distance travel, & the additional expenses are a burden no one should face alone.

Treatment has already begun, & already complicated with the addition of a further diagnosis of stage 3 cervical cancer - spread to her lymph nodes, & kidney issues requiring stent surgery.

Ameka is fiercely independent & asking for help isn’t easy. As the eldest of 5 siblings, she’s the one people lean on. If you know her, you’ll understand how much she gives to others.

Now, she needs our support. Ameka can’t work while undergoing treatment, which directly impacts her ability to keep her business going, & provide for Jake.

We’re raising funds to help cover travel, medical related expenses, & living costs during this challenging time as not all costs are covered by our overstretched health system.

By donating, you’re easing her financial burden & allowing her to focus on what matters most—her health & being there for her son.

Many have already contributed financially, & offered support, to enable care for Jake, & to keep her business running.

Let’s rally behind Ameka & show her she’s not alone!

Update on Ameka's treatment   9 September 2024

First of all, we would just like to thank everyone for their support, kind words and the love you have shown our girl! Those who have so generously donated to Ameka, you don't how much this means. It is so heartwarming and very much appreciated.

Ameka is half way through her treatment now, but it is really starting to take its toll, physically and emotionally. She is missing everyone and ready to come home. With brachytherapy starting this week, she will be unable to come home now so this half of her treatment is going to be rough. But we know she can do it!

Our girl is strong and she's doing amazing! Keep pushing babe, we're all here and we love you more than you know!
