While competing for New Zealand I want to change the world, by creating a film about mental health and continuing when it is dark.

Whanganui, Manawatu-Wanganui

Climbing is not funded in New Zealand so I need your help.

In the 2022 World Cup season I brought home New Zealand's first ever medal in the history of Sport Climbing while battling severe health complications and leg infections.

By returning to the World Cup Circuit this year I hope to finish a film about mental health & continuing. It is an honour to compete for New Zealand, and I have been training for 5 years for this climax of the World Championship in August. I have high hopes despite the challenging last 12 months.

But this has become about so much more than winning.

I lost a friend to suicide back home while I was on tour last year. Then I lost my ability to walk, came home to lose more of my leg, and a subsequent battle with my own mental health. So this passion project has become even more meaningful for me. Together with Katie Myers (film maker/creator) we hope to share our ongoing journeys with wellbeing and give people hope that even in our darkest days, we can let in the light, we can create or chase the sunshine and we can continue.

Our film is raw and real, showing first hand that life is measured by all the beautiful moments in between the adversity and struggle. Our message is don't give up, anything can happen beyond what you can imagine. Let your community and friendships carry you there.

We would love your support, a little, a lot or a share of our link. This is for all of those who we have lost, and in the hope that we save a life.

Ngā mihi.

Use of funds

Funds go toward the cost of travel, off shore training and competition fees for the May World Cup (USA) and the August World Championships (Switzerland). Climbing is an unfunded sport in Aotearoa. There is no financial support outside of what I can raise.

Qualified for Finals in 3rd Place!   10 August 2023

Well what a wonder! It was a battle on some gutsy routes but I am sitting in 3rd place after yesterdays Qualifiers and heading to finals tomorrow!

The finals will be live streamed on the IFSC YouTube channel. Starting 1pm Thursday 10th in Bern, Switzerland . Which is 11pM in New Zealand on Thursday. If you’re live streaming… exeovt a little bit of a late night! It’s unlikely WAL2 will be out first. But I promise the entire event is a treat. Generally the B (blind) categories compete first for crowd management as these athletes need silence in the arena.

Here’s the link! And again…. Thankyou for being a part of this incredible journey!

Ngā mihi.
