Exchange Trip to China!

NZIIU has given me a great opportunity to explore the culture of China and improve my Mandarin skills. The student exchange program that I have applied for starts in October this year and is 3 months long. I will be staying in Zhengzhou in Henan, China. My hope is that this experience will grow my understanding and appreciation of the Chinese culture along with my Mandarin. I am eager to share my experience and knowledge of Chinese culture within my school community to perhaps cultivate the Mandarin language within my school. During the 3 months I will spend abroad with the Program, I will attend daily classes, studying grammar, culture and conversations in a Middle School named Zheng Zhou No.31 Middle School. I will spend my weekdays in the school’s dormitory and a local family will host me in their home on the weekends. I will be completely immersed in Mandarin, as the program requires me to speak exclusively in the Chinese.

Next year, I will continue my study of Mandarin at my high school, and share my program experiences with the students and teachers at my school. I will also help and encourage my fellow students in their study of Mandarin. I plan to pursue my study of Mandarin at university, as I recognize this will open many career opportunities for me.

The total fee for the program is $8,500.00. I have been lucky enough to receive a scholarship that covers some parts of the fee and I am very grateful for the help that I have received so far. My parents and I are working hard to make this trip possible for me, but we will need some assistance in doing so. I would be very grateful if you would be willing to sponsor me to help pay for the program fees so that I can experience this new culture and give back to the local community upon my return.
