2013/2014 NZ Kyokushin Champion, 2014 Australian Kyokushin Champ fundraising towards training costs leading up to the World Tournaments
Bay of Plenty
Kia Ora,
My name is Amy Gabb and I am 23 years of age, a recently qualified ECE teacher, a solo mother, a part time worker, and a committed sports woman.
In 2014 I won both the New Zealand and Australian Kyokushin Full Contact Karate Heavy Weight Elite Women's title. These events were held in Wellington on the 14th of June, and in Brisbane on the 7th of September. With having held the New Zealand title for 2013/ 2014, I have now been selected and given the opportunity to compete in the 2015 Kyokushin Mixed Open World Team Cup Tournament held in Sau Paulo, Brazil, July the 4th and 5th.
In preparation for the World Tournament I am currently training hard 6 days a week, and taking a range of stand up fights in; Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and Kyokushin Karate fights. My ultimate goal is to be fighting once a month. My first fight for the year was February 14th (Mod Muay Thai) followed by; March 7th (Mod Muay Thai), March 28th (Kyokushin Waikato Champ), April 18th (Mod Muay Thai), and competing in the NZ Kyokushin Nationals May 23rd.
I have created this Givealittle profile to see if anyone would be interested in getting behind me to help me achieve these dreams.
If you are interested your generous sponsorship/ donation would be highlighted in announcements to my team mates and other members of where I train. If you are a business owner I am happy to put a logo on my training bag/ t-shirt for the world to see, also regular shout outs on my Facebook, Instagram, and blog leading up to the World Tournaments. If you do however prefer I could wear your product and advertise your business.
I look forward to what the next 5 months have in store for me. Thank you for taking the time to have a read of my journey and cause.
Amy Gabb :)
I am involved in Martial Arts because my dad has opened and ran many clubs throughout Tauranga, Auckland, and Northland. At the age of 14 I became interested in getting involved whilst having just moved to Auckland. I trained Kyokushin Karate and Kiaido Ryu Martial Arts for 4 years where I competed as a colt. At age 18 I made the move to Tauranga where I took a few years off to set my life up where I worked full time, studied a four year teaching degree, and in between all that in 2011 (age 19) I became a mum. I knew that I had a fighter within me and wanted to find somewhere to; train, get fit, lose the baby weight, meet new people, and learn to fight in a different discipline. I started training early 2012 in Muay Thai/ Martial Arts in Tauranga. In 2012 when my daughter turned 1 I had my first Muay Thai novice fight as well as my first Women's fight in Kyokushin. Now I am here...
