An appeal to all men and women of good will! The people of Darjeeling needs your help as they fight the war on Covid 19.

The present situation in India is a harrowing onslaught of this 2nd deadly wave of Covid 19 transmissions. Not a day goes by without some sad news of someone familiar succumbing to this virus. It does not hold any bias to family, friends, foe, rich, poor, caste, or creed.

Our Darjeeling hills have not been spared and every single day the cases keep climbing. Our family personally has lost count of someone we know back home who has lost their lives to this unforgiving virus.

The existing health system of the entire Darjeeling hills is already overwhelmed and exhausted, especially for the poor and marginalised. The hospitals and medical facilities have run out of beds.

Several institutions have come to our assistance during this unprecedented crisis. Project CARE for Darjeeling, a joint initiative between local NGOs, Darjeeling Initiative, and Edwards Foundation, will aim to fill in the gaps and provide urgent and critical aid to the needy within Darjeeling Hills. They are working alongside numerous doctors and medical professionals providing free, in-person, and remote consultation.

We are raising funds to support project CARE to provide:

• Medical Oxygen through Oxygen Concentrators and Oxygen Cylinders,

• medicines in consultation with medical practitioners,

• safe accommodation and meal to nurses in the government Covid Wards,

• Nutritious meals to the ailing Covid Patients at the Government designated Covid Hospitals.

• Cooked meals or rations to the needy under home isolation.

• Transportation for needy with suspected Covid symptoms to nearby health facilities

Sheer shortages of hospital beds with oxygen supply and medical assistance have been attributed to a loved one’s life being cut short unnecessarily.
