Andersons Bay Community Kindergarten relocation.

After 85 years on our current site our kindergarten is having to move. Following the 2011 Canterbury earthquake the church site on which our kindergarten is located was listed as earthquake prone. Due to this the buildings needed to undergo lots of costly earthquake strengthening repairs to bring them up to current standards. These repairs were too costly for the congregation along with the local synod to undertake on their own and the decision was made to dissolve the congregation. We were offered the first option to purchase the property however due to being unable to subdivide our buildings away from the church this option was simply out of reach for a small kindergarten like ourselves. We were then informed that the church was in-fact going to be put on the market for sale and in turn we would need to relocate.

After a long process the opportunity arose for us to be able to take over the lease on a Ministry of Education property in Jeffery street. This property was the location of the Anderson's Bay Playcentre for many years. In order to move into this site we are having to undertake expensive renovations so we can obtain a license to operate our kindergarten there. We are using all our funds in which we have saved long and hard for knowing that one day we would have to move. However as we are a small community-based, not for profit kindergarten our funds to do these renovations are extremely tight. We are focusing on what we have to get done to be able to operate in the building but want to give our children the best possible place for them to spend their early learning years.

The money which we will raise from this will go towards further renovations, including the outdoor area which sadly we have only limited money in our budget for.
