Andrew is currently fighting Multiple Myeloma and is unable to work whilst undergoing treatment.
Canterbury
Andrew is a 54-year-old single dad with three children. He was diagnosed at Easter with Multiple Myeloma, which is a rare form of blood cancer which is incurable, after being admitted to hospital with renal failure and a spinal injury that was not getting better as a result of the underlying cancer.
Being a single dad, Andrew is the main source of income for the household. His eldest daughter Megan, lives full time with him and he has supported her through her university studies and he also shares custody with his former wife of their youngest daughter.
Since the initial spinal injury and subsequent diagnosis of cancer, Andrew has been unable to work at all due to the intensity of his treatment, which includes dialysis for the renal failure, intensive ongoing chemotherapy and he has now begun the process of a stem cell transplant. Hopefully, with another few months of treatment, the multiple myeloma will be brought under control and Andrew will be able to resume his normal life and reenter the workforce.
We as a family have exhausted all channels available for adequate financial assistance in order for Andrew to run his home and family. In order for Andrew to continue with his treatment, we now as a family find ourselves in the unfortunate position of having to ask for external financial help.
The extra stress and burden of constantly worrying about finances is not helping in his long-term recovery and no one should have to be stressed about this when they are already extremely ill.
We thank everyone in advance for any help that they are able to give our family.
I am involved because I want my dad to have the best chance of recovery without having the constant financial stress which he is currently experiencing.
