Can you help Angus realise his dream of representing his country by playing for NZ in Cairo at the U19 B'ball World Championships this year?
Canterbury
In July this year, the New Zealand Junior Tall Blacks team will travel to the FIBA U19 World Basketball Championships in Cairo, Egypt.
The team beat Australia to qualify for the tournament back in December 2016, which was fantastic, but this excitement is now tempered by the fact that we need to cover the huge costs of preparing for and attending the World Championships.
It will, however, be worth the effort! No-one expected New Zealand to qualify, least of all Australia, who already had their hotel room booked in Cairo... We have something to prove out there.
Be a part of making this happen for New Zealand and for a young man who has given this dream everything he has for 7 long years.
Colin Powell once said...'A dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work'. Angus is determined to achieve, has worked hard and put in the hours, sweat and tears. With your financial help he can take this next step.
Funds will be utilised for attending and preparing for the U19 World Basketball Championships in Cairo, Egypt. This includes numerous trips to and from Auckland for training camps and the two weeks preparatory training in China leading up to the Cairo Championships. (While still keeping up with their NCEA requirements) A lot of hard work!
We know this team will make us all proud and represent New Zealand with mana on the world stage.
Selected for Junior Tall Blacks 27 May 2017
Head Coach Daryl Cartwright is excited about the group that will be the first to represent New Zealand at a FIBA U19 World Cup. The team qualified after defeating Australia at the Oceania Championships last year in Fiji.
It is also a team with considerable size, with the New Zealand associations and pathways continuing to produce a raft of quality young "bigs", with Callum McRae, Angus McWilliam, Sam Waardenburg and Tai Wynyard all standing at 6’10” or taller.
