    FUNDRAISING FOR THE

SPAYING, CASTRATING AND ANTI-RABIES VACCINATING OF STRAY DOGS

    FIRST TRANCH

    AMPANDRIANOMBY

    ANTANANARIVO –MADAGASCAR

Visitors to Madagascar who are animal lovers, are always alarmed at the shocking conditions in which the majority of these starving and skeletal dogs live or rather survive, on the refuse dumps and rats - searching for a morsel.

Often the bitches are either pregnant with full mammaries or are clearly feeding puppies with swinging mammaries under protruding ribs and spines.

These animals, often hurt, limping on three legs with a broken limb dangling due to motor accidents or ill treatment and abuse, are the perfect carriers of serious diseases such as rabies due to their miserable existence.

ASOS is a registered association founded in 2003, which receives no government support, All operating costs are borne by the founder Carlina Herselman, from her private funds and with donations given by donors known to her, either in the form of money or used books which are sold at low prices to help feed the over 100 dogs in the refuge in Ivato.

ASOS rescues and accepts abandoned, sick and hurt and ill treated dogs and cats and delivers them to the VETCLINIC for treatment and sterilisation. After this they are transferred to the refuge in Ivato where they are trained and socialised whilst waiting for a suitable family that will provide them with a good and loving home.

Over the years we have rescued over 3000 animals and successfully homed over 1000.

The animals that do not find homes remain permanent residents of our sanctuary as we are a NO KILL organisation.

Many of the dogs rescued in 2003 have already passed on due to old age or have been euthanised due to incurable illnesses ; it is our policy to limit suffering at all costs.

ASOS has done several no-fee rabies vaccination campaigns to help protect and educate the population and especially the children who are the most vulnerable.

The first stage of the latest project for ANIMAL SOS MADAGASCAR is to sterilise, cleanse of internal and external parasites, stamp with identity tattoos, and vaccinate against rabies, 80 bitches and 20 dogs straying or abandoned in the AMPANDRIANOMBY area.

We indicate herewith a ball-park figure of direct, out of pocket costs. (EUR 10,562.00)

VETCLINIC staff will work as volunteers for these projects.

ASOS wishes to thank all who support this project, from the bottom of our hearts.

Every small donation will help us to gather the necessary funds to realise this essential work and its subsequent tranches.
