We need your help to send Anita's body home.
Auckland
Unfortunately, we have a very sad news to share. Anita Rani (right in the picture) had flown from India just weeks earlier to reconnect with her estranged eldest son who moved to New Zealand on a student visa eight years ago when she was struck by a driver in a stolen car in Lower Hutt and left to die on the road. It was her greatest regret she had not properly spoken to her son beyond a text or quick phone call at that time.
Anita and her husband Gurmail Singh had only recently decided to try and reconnect with their son. At the start of September, they used their savings to fly to Wellington from their home in Kurukshetra, India, to try and convince their son to return home. However, the trip ended in tragedy with Anita Rani killed on Naenae Rd, hit by an unknown driver last Thursday in a car that had been stolen mere hours before.
The couple had kept their visit to New Zealand a secret from their son, not even telling him they were in the country until the same day as their flight from Auckland to Wellington. Her sudden departure has left his family feeling very sad and deep in shock.
They had very few contacts in New Zealand. Now, we need help from our community so that we can send Anita's body to her husband in India.
We're asking for your help. Even a small amount can make a big difference. By giving, you're not just helping with money, you're giving hope and showing that we care about his family. We're all in this together.
Thank you for being a part of this.
Anita Rani was my aunt.
The money will be spent on repatriation of Anita's body home and some financial help to the family.
