Anna Dawson has been selected to represent her country in the New Zealand Lacrosse U19 Women’s Team who will compete at the 2015 U19 Women’s World Championship in Edinburgh Scotland, Thursday 23 July – Saturday 1 August 2015.
Anna is 18 years old and finished her college education in December 2015. Since then she has worked stacking shelves in supermarkets, worked in warehouses and has been taking any jobs she can get to raise funds to represent her country.
She is currently working two jobs to raise money, and as well as working she trains hard not only for fitness but also to support her fellow team members.
Anna, representing her country is not funded it has cost her $6,000 dollars to date to participate in the world championship. The total cost will be $10,000.
She is excited, determined and working hard and is $4000 off her goal. If you can help it would be so very appreciated. If you can't I just thank you for reading this.
A little about Lacrosse (a growing sport):
Lacrosse is a team sport that involves a fist-sized hard rubber ball that is thrown, caught, and shot using lacrosse sticks. Lacrosse sticks are about a metre long and consist of a shaft (usually metal) and a plastic head that is strung with mesh. Goalie sticks and men's defensive sticks are bigger. Players carry and pass the ball in order to score goals. In New Zealand, three types of lacrosse are played: men's field lacrosse, women's field lacrosse, and mixed social lacrosse. For more details on the sport, see Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacrosse.
I am here to help my niece reach her goal and represent her country. She works so hard and is so deserving. Anna gives to the community in so many ways and I know always will - I want to help her now in return.
