Help me journey to Nepal with Oxfam NZ as I raise funds for the continued projects in the region after the devastating 2015 earthquake.
Wellington
In April 2015, a 7.8 earthquake and hundreds of aftershocks devastated Nepal and killed nearly 9,000 people. Oxfam was one of the non-profit organisations on the ground helping to immediately respond after the earthquake and who continue to support local artisans with free trade agreements. I am currently fundraising $3,000 to go towards Oxfam’s projects in the region as a direct donation to Oxfam.
In March 2017 I will be joining a group of 20 other volunteers who are also fundraising for Nepal. We will head to Nepal to complete a 6 day hiking challenge on the Annapurna trek and to visit the local artisans and villages that our fundraising efforts will be supporting, and to hear their stories first hand. I will be fundraising for $1,500 of the $5,000 travel costs aswell.
I signed up for Oxfam's Journey to Nepal as a challenge to myself. I will be challenging myself physically and mentally to prepare for and complete the 6 day hike in the Annapurna trek in Nepal in March 2017 with the other volunteers. This will be an organisational challenge as I host many events from movie nights to raffles to sausage sizzles (despite being vegetarian!) as I endeavour to raise the funds for this amazing cause.
I've participated in other fundraising activities before such as Live below the Line, but nothing of this scale. It is an incredible opportunity and one that I will work hard for to achieve to help Oxfam continue to change lives in Nepal.
