Dear Family, Whanau, Friends, and generous kind-hearted people,

Antonio Rivera is my father who suffered and survived from a stroke overseas in Philippines.

My 62-yr-old father had a heart bypass in 2012 and was also diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension. Back in 2021, he unfortunately had Covid and was hospitalised. Tests and procedures were completed including MRI and it was found that he has excess fluid in his brain.

Recently, he had another Brain MRI test and the doctor has told him that there is an unknown “spot” seen and swollen ventricles that might cause another stroke episode if not treated asap. The excessive amount of fluid in his brain is not normal for a 62-yr-old individual as per her doctor’s advise. His doctor also mentioned that there’s also a possibility of him having a condition called “Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus”.

He will need to undergo further tests and another MRI test (with contrast this time) so his doctor can compare both tests to be able to confirm what his current condition is. After the second test, Papa will have to undergo nerve test to make sure everything was covered before the doctor decides what will be the next step.

Too often, we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, or the smallest act of caring. All of which have the potential to turn a life around. Someone once said, Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.
