Apollo's Surgery Costs

$840 of $3,000 goal
Given by 17 generous donors in 7 weeks

Apollo tragically lost his life after 5 hours surgery at Massey Equine Clinic, resulting in over $8000 outstanding vet costs.

Wellington

Apollo was a member of my sisters family for over 10 years. My sister purchased Apollo when he was a young colt and he was a regular part of daily life from that moment on. My two nieces learned to ride on him, he attended and featured at many birthday parties and had a special bond with my sister, Tracey. When he became unwell there was no hesitation to seek treatment to save his life.

He was rushed from Wellington to Palmerston North and underwent surgery for Impacted Colic, a blockage within the gastrointestinal tract.

Apollo underwent a harrowing 5 hour surgery to try and save his life. Unfortunately this was unsuccessfully. Despite a team of experts working tirelessly there was nothing more that could be done and Apollo passed early hours of Saturday 4th February.

The loss of Apollo has left a massive hole in the lives of my sister and her family. In addition to their grief they have been left with a sizeable vet bill totaling over $8000. Apollo had been insured for the past 3 years however the policy has expired end of January and as the premium and renewal had not been done at the time of his surgery, there is no cover.

I have set up this page on behalf of my sister to try and assist with the remaining vet costs.

Insurance cover declined  9 February 2017

HUGE thank you to everyone for your generous donations and kind words.

Bit of a bad news update unfortunately. Insurance cover for Apollo was declined yesterday. His insurance policy expired at the end of January and as the premium to renew had not been paid, he was not covered at the time of his surgery. The final bill is yet to be received but will be around $10-12,000. This comprises of $8,000 for the surgery, plus transportation costs from Wellington to Palmerston North, 2x vet visits prior to being sent to Massey for surgery and after care/burial of Apollo's body.

If you can please continue to share the link to this page. This is a massive cost and any assistance is greatly appreciated <3
