Koha towards Aaron Tokona's Tangi, Daughter and Partner.Auckland
Aaron Tokona suddenly and tragically passed away Saturday, 20 June 2020 in his home he shared with Karma and children.
Relentlessly loving father to his beautiful daughter Asha.
Aaron is bonafide Maori Rockstar Genius who influenced, inspired and rocked a generation of NZ musicians and fans here and the world over.
To name just a few of his projects: Bongmaster, Weta, Fly My Pretties, Cairo Knife Fight and the Epic AHoriBuzz.
He will always be remembered for his phenomenal musical legacy; but for Aaron, those he loves-His Whanau: his daughter, his loving woman, his beautiful friends- Always come first.
For those who wish to show their support and aroha to Aaron, this page has been created to contribute to the costs of his Tangi, the celebration of his life. Ongoing help to support the journey of the women in his life Asha and Karma.

Thank you so much for the outpouring of aroha, beautiful words and generous donations towards ensuring we can assist Asha and Karma at this tragic time.
2 weeks ago today our epic friend, father, loving partner and inspiration left us suddenly and our lives changed forever.
We have no choice but to reflect, remember and cling to the many memories of all our time with Aaron.
We are very grateful to share that the Tangi costs have now been covered. So so much aroha and support for this magical, beautiful man, his whanau and loved ones. Thank you to all of you from the bottom of our hearts.
Alongside continuing to help support Karma and Asha in some small way through this incredibly painful time, there is also something growing and beginning to gain momentum to keep shining Aarons light out into the world. Karma, whanau and friends are in the process of creating a vision for the Aaron Tokona Charitable Trust to help keep sharing his incredible wairua and kaupapa of hearty inclusivity and love with others to support self care and creativity.
The place for this vision is to be at one of his absolute favourite places, the west coast beach of Piha Auckland. Aaron's go-to for healing solitude and to connect deeply with those he loved.
Piha is the place where he ultimately wanted to have a studio -every visit there he would talk about this vision of a place for not only writing and making music, but also as a place of retreat and self care.
The goal of the trust is create a studio that can offer support and mentoring for young musicians and artists and to support mental health and wellbeing.
Aaron was always very open about his struggles with addiction and mental health and was very grateful and humbled by the support and help he received. This gave Aaron an incredible ability to connect with empathy and wisdom to others who were facing similar challenges. Because of how he lived and shared himself so openly the guiding light of the Charitable Trust is to support others to learn Self Care, the journey Aaron was on, but tragically did not get to complete.
We will continue to keep you updated as this vision evolves.
