Koha to support Tiāri and her whānau during her recovery at Starship Hospital.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Kia ora koutou,
Over a week ago, baby Tiāri was admitted to ICU and placed on a ventilator while the dedicated team at Christchurch Hospital worked tirelessly to determine the cause of her condition. Tiāri was eventually transferred to the PICU at Starship Hospital, where she was diagnosed with Infant Botulism, a very rare bacterial infection. She is only the fourth case in Aotearoa.
The road to recovery for Tiāri is long, and she, along with her whānau, will be in Auckland for an extended period. Jack, Karen, and big brother Māia are currently staying at Ronald McDonald House. Tiāri's recovery is a waiting game, and it is uncertain if there will be any lasting effects.
Many of you have reached out, eager to support Tiāri and her whānau during this challenging time. With their blessing, we have set up a page for contributions. Your support will help Karen, Jack, and Māia remain by Tiāri's side and alleviate some of the financial burdens they face.
Ka nui te mihi for your kindness and generosity.
From the Baggaley and Grant whānau, Suli and Ria.
Karen's sister.
Costs to support Tiāri's recovery and allow Karen, Jack and Māia to stay by her side in Auckland.
Tiāri's progress at home 3 September 2024
Tiāri continues to improve and is not far off being 100% back to her happy self. After her self-removal of her tube and losing some weight, she has finally made some weight gains. She has been attending regular neurology appointments, and we are optimistic that she is close to being fully discharged. Hopefully our next update will be confirming that outcome!
Kia ora Toni. Thank you for your koha for Tiāri, Karen and the whānau. xx
