It's the Pits - Aro Valley Preschool Sandpit Fundraiser
If you've ever spent time in Aro Valley, played in a sandpit, or been a kid, then please help us to have this essential learning resource.

Aro Valley Preschool needs a new sandpit. Our existing sandpit has to be removed due to health and safety issues and problems with the sand escaping and messing up our safety matting.
Our landlord (Wellington City Council), has made the replacement of our wonky safety matting contingent on us removing our existing sandpit and creating a suitable alternative. So we're wanting to create an awesome sandpit that is enclosed, with decking, sun protection and drainage. This will also help us support some of our children with special needs whose access to the sand needs to be managed and monitored.
A sandpit is an awesome learning resource. Children gain confidence in and control of their bodies, they have fun with spontaneous play and learn strategies for active exploration, thinking and reasoning. Sand play gives children the opportunity to develop useful social interaction skills while playing alongside other children. And let's face it, it's fun, not just for the kids, but for adults too.

Aro Valley Preschool is a not-for-profit early childhood education centre, governed by a parent cooperative and staffed by an awesome team of qualified, registered teachers. We're doing our bit to look for funding in all manner of places and will be doing plenty of the grunt work ourselves, clearing our existing sandpit and doing what we can towards creating our new one. But, despite our efforts to find funds, we are looking for your help too. This is a community resource, so what better thing to ask the community to help us out with.
