This school will be the first of it’s kind in Cuba. A professional Make-up School FREE to its students.

Auckland

Gilberto (Papito) Valladares, the brainchild behind the Arte Corte Hairdressing Salon, Museum and School is extremely excited to expand his already successful training project to include me.

I am Verity Griffiths awarded and experienced in most things hair and make-up, I have lived my whole working life (30 years) for myself, I love to teach but am newly inspired to do so in a fresh way, not for myself anymore but to help others.

When I read online about Papito and his self-funded FREE Hairdressing School I had to investigate. I couldn’t contact him in any way via the internet or telephone so I had to go myself to Cuba to present my proposal, having no way of knowing if he would be open to my plan or if he was even still in Havana running his school! Fortunately for us he is and is!

Arte Corte’s hairdressing course runs over 2 years, it currently has 12 students, 10 of which are either deaf or extremely impaired. Papito has and always will be driven to create opportunity for those less fortunate with few prospects. His motivation is to empower the community through teaching and social initiatives, a number of which are not even beauty related. Papito is constantly driven by the desire to uplift the community, one person at a time if need be and he has a fantastic vision to unite people all over the world through art, beauty and creativity.

I am very happy to become part of the team at Arte Corte and will be introducing make-up & western hair styling to the training programme.

A small breakdown of the help I'm looking for:

Flights: NZD$2,500

Acommodation:NZD $2,000

Interpreter: NZD$750

Food: NZD$2,100

Verity Griffiths' involvement (page creator)

My contribution to the school will be to teach make-up and western hair styling techniques, approximately 2 months of the current 2 year hairdressing course. Ideally to extend to a separate full-time make-up course in the future.

I will devote my time for free to empower the students in preparation for the influx of tourism and the local market growth. Their skills will be ready to facilitate any clients needs and they will be in a far stronger position to have successful careers with greater opportunity.
