Do you believe that art matters?

At age 16 I spent my two weeks of Work Experience with Sarah Hillary and the conservation team at the Auckland Art Gallery. I was so inspired by the work they did that, since then, I’ve made it my goal to become an Art Conservator.

Thanks to my own perseverance, passion, endurance in the pursuit of big dreams, and the constant support of my family, I have studied the preliminary BA/BFA (Hons) at Auckland University and have officially been accepted to begin my Masters of Cultural Materials Conservation at Melbourne University for the start of their 2017 intake – a world-class course at a world-class institution!

I truly believe that studying at the University of Melbourne can equip me with the necessary skills and creative consciousness to help preserve New Zealand art and culture for future generations. As much as it is about my passion, I believe that my role can eventually benefit New Zealand's history. As David Lowenthal said in his essay 'Stewarding the Past in a Perplexing Present', "Heritage atrophies in the absence of public support. Only when it is populist has it vital merit, as distinct from merely mercenary value or arcane antiquarianism."

You have to care for art matter in order to make sure art matters, so please help me to pursue this goal!

For everyone who contributes - please know that I am so humbled and grateful for your all-embracing, prevalent show of kindness. To those who donate $35 or more, I would like to show my true appreciation by sending you one of my limited prints. These are hand-drawn, personally signed artworks, that I would only be too happy to gift to you. Please find my Facebook link in the bio, and check out my drawings under the tab 'Gallery'.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
