Asher needs CBD oil to control seizures

  • Different brand, better price

      12 April 2021

As it takes a long time to get the CW oil from the USA and changes in NZ law are making it more difficult to get products into the country, we are looking at trying a local brand. It's 4 times the strength of the current CW oil, and with the price being less than the CW oil (/mg), we think it would be a good idea to try this stronger oil. If we get enough to get the $800 bottle, we will be keen to keep her on the current dose and see how this brand compares at this wonderfully increased dose.

  • Decision time

I was feeling so positive after the last increase as she went 2 weeks without a seizure. Unfortunately she then had 2 seizures within 3 days, so still 4 in the month.

At the current dose we only have 2 months supply left, so it's decision time. With our supply getting low, we need to consider dropping the dose a bit. We haven't got near the amount she could be having, but thanks to your wonderful help we were able to go from 50mg/day to 250mg/day. The 550mg/day is just far too expensive to consider. Her current dose costs around $500 per month.

We are so thankful for the improvement we have seen over the last months. When I saw her pediatrician last month he asked how her sleeping was going. It was only then that I realized she had been sleeping so much better. She falls asleep really quickly and easily at night now, and she doesn't have her regular 4am waking up.

I also had her IEP (Individual Education Plan) meeting with her teacher this last week. They are just so amazed at her overall improvement in well-being. Last year she regularly had times where she would just cling to the teachers and say "feel bad". There were many days when they could just not even attempt to get any schoolwork done with her as she was so unsettled (neurologically or emotionally) and that has been so greatly improved this year. She is able to focus on her work so much more and they have been so impressed with how well she is doing at school.

It's been a huge blessing for us to have the "feel bad" times almost disappear (I can only remember this happening once in the last 2 or 3 months). This used to be something that could be happening almost every day and sometimes lasting for hours at a time.

So although I can't give a clear number of reduced seizures (how I have longed for this to happen), I am very grateful for the improvements we have seen for Asher over these last months. And I thank you all for your part in making that happen.

  • Increasing dose and supply uncertain

      12 March 2021

We have decided to up Asher's dose again and she is now getting 5ml/day (which is still only half what her neurologist has said she could be on). We don't know if there is potentially a dose that will give her more control, so we have decided to keep going to see if it's possible. We wonderfully have stock to be able to do this, but it is a hard decision as it means that each bottle will only last just over 2 weeks. It's a hard balance between trying to let your wonderful donations last for a number of months, or use this supply to get more control.

There are legal changes coming to NZ regarding imported CBD oil, so we are also very aware that we may not be able to continue to stock the CW CBD oil for Asher, long term. Unfortunately locally available products are not as effective for her, and are much more expensive. So while we can get it for her, it will be good to see what the full potential of the oil is for Asher. If we find a perfect dose on CW CBD oil, it may help us know how much she would need of the other brands to get a similar result (if at some point that becomes our only option).

Thank you again to all who have contributed.

  • More night control needed

We are so thankful for the benefits we have seen already with the increase in her dose. She does however still continue to have seizures at night. She has had 1 each week for the last month.

4 a month is a great improvement from the 8 she had in October, but it's still heartbreaking each time she has a seizure. It's especially hard for me after the seizure, as she is very unsettled and uncomfortable for 20-30 minutes. It's so hard seeing her discomfort and not being able to do anything to help her feel better.

So with our next order on it's way from America, I have decided to increase her evening dose from 1,5g to 2g. And when the stock arrives I will increase it again to 2,5g. I'm not sure yet how long each bottle will last, but I'm guessing this change will mean they last for 3 weeks rather than a month.

  • Current dose - a year paid for

Wonderfully I spotted a 40% OFF sale just before Christmas, and was able to purchase 10 bottles at that amazing price!!!

I had been hoping for a 25% or even a 30% discount to benefit from, so you can imagine how pleased I was to get such a huge discount.

This means that at her current dose of 3ml/day, we have a whole year supply of oil paid for through this page. I am overwhelmingly grateful for each one who has contributed and shared this page.

We were able to take her to a beach yesterday which she enjoyed so much, with no neurological activity.

We have also already seen a reduction in seizures and we have also noticed that she is talking a lot more.

    We are so thankful.

  • Up to 3ml/day

Asher had a PEG put in for feeding last week and I was so thankful to be able to increase her dose again to give her extra support. She is now getting 3ml/day.

Thank you to all who have contributed to this being possible for her.

She had such a great time yesterday playing with her box of balls. She throws them across the room into the basket next to her bed. You can see on her face how much fun she was having.

  • Starting to increase dose

      30 November 2020

With over 6 bottles funded and 2 on their way to us from the USA, we have increased Asher's dose from 1ml to 2ml / day (as a start). It may take a couple of months to see the full effect of the increase but we are so excited about being able to do this for her. We thank each one of you who has contributed and is praying for Asher.

Photo: Asher does so love her puzzles. 🥰

  • 1 Bottle funded

I am so very thankful to each person who has already contributed to this cause. I've shed a number of tears in joyful appreciation.

Your contributions will already cover 1 bottle of CW CBD oil for Asher. The bottles are 50mg/ml in a 100ml bottle. With shipping each bottle costs around $380.

Up till now we have made that bottle last 100 days (just 50mg / day). When our next shipment arrives, I know I will be able to up her dose from 1ml / day to at least 2ml / day.

Thank you for making that happen. It's really exciting to see what difference it will make for her.

There is another area I'm also hoping for improvement in. She is photosensitive, which effects her when she is around water with the sunlight shining off it. She just loves the beach and swimming though, so it is hard that we can't take her often or for very long. She eventually starts to "feel bad" with neurological activity picking up and so she is forced to cut her fun short. How I long for this little girl to get to enjoy the sea more.
