Ashhurst (Palmerston North) Guides Jamboree Fundraiser

$395 of $3,200 goal
Given by 13 generous donors in 9 weeks

We are fundraising to help send our Guides to jamboree in January 2022

Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui

Jamboree is the biggest camp for Guides and Rangers in New Zealand with about 2,000 girls attending from around the country. This offers a once in a lifetime opportunity for girls to camp together, learn new skills, push their limits and try a range of fun challenges. Talk to anyone that’s ever been to a Jamboree and they’ll tell you that it is life changing for the girls (and even the adult volunteers).

Journey 2022 will be held at Mystery Creek in Hamilton from the 8th to 15th January where girls camp in tents for 7 nights and participate in 6 full days of activities. The fee per girl is $995 plus travel costs.

This life changing event is an opportunity and integral part of our girls’ journey to developing personal skills they need to become strong confident women. This event pushes their boundaries, challenges them to grow their confidence, independence, develop leadership skills and make lifelong friendships.

There are 4 girls fund-raising to attend from the Ashhurst Guide unit and all of them are aiming to raise the event cost of $995 each. Every penny raised will be distributed to all the girls to help them meet their total. This will be supplemented by sausage sizzles, discos, Garage Sales, and selling Eco soaps.

Use of funds

It will be split between the 4 Ashhurst Guides to help subsidize the cost of attending this event.

A sincere thanks from us all but unfortunately GirlGuiding New Zealand has had to make the incredibly difficult decision to cancel Jamboree 2022. This difficult decision was not made lightly. We were all looking forward to coming together for a wonderful event for 8 days in January 2022, at Mystery creek in Hamilton and to not be able to do that is heart breaking for us all. However, they had to make this decision for the safety and wellbeing of our members and to provide as much certainty as we can in uncertain times. The committee had planned this event with covid 19 in mind and were confident they could deliver this event under the previous alert level guidelines for levels 1 and 2. The decision to cancel was based on fluctuating government advice around managing events under Delta restrictions. The recent and rapid changes of the Delta outbreak meant they did not know what restrictions would be required come January 2022 to deliver a safe, engaging Jamboree 2022. As a result, they had to make the decision to cancel now to minimise the impact of a later possible cancellation. GirlGuiding New Zealand is committed to holding a Jamboree for all Guides and Rangers but are not able to confirm a date yet. We do want to be honest here, so we do feel it is important we offer all who donated on our give a little page a refund. Can you please email Caroline on carojray@gmail.com to ensure we can start this process ASAP. Please include your name, amount donated and bank account for funds to be returned to. Any donations not refunded will be held by the unit in a bank account and can be allocated to future events for girls. Any further questions please feel free to email me also. Once again, our heartfelt thanks to you all.
