A short doco (15 min) exploring ASMR, aiming to grow the community of ASMRtists & listners in NEW ZEALAND. To redefine what ASMR could mean.
Auckland
I plan to create a short-doco intended for New Zealand festivals (and hopefully even overseas ones) that goes beyond the usualy medium of communication - Youtube. I want to raise awareness of what this hugely popular phenomena actually is in a country where it has not yet been discovered, and show all people how many fellow humans are dedicating their lives to creating content for others, by taking on my own fresh perspective of what ASMR could be used for and how closely connected to childhood it really is. My angle, focusing on greeting your 'Inner child' and rekindling the innocent & pure mindset of childhood, aims to excite and create an alternative source of sensory pleasure / relaxation / ease, or even therapy, than what is currently the social norms. Through my doco, I hope to create a relaxed environment through a large part of the doco being in ASMR (You heard right - a soft spoken doco!), with an explosion of visual triggers matching with their auditory counterparts, research compiled from many interviews/books/history sources, reenactment of popular scenarios, and the teaching of what this all means to us. The teaching of what we, the ASMR community, are all about! A Doco about ASMR, using ASMR tactics, while educating deeply on ASMR at the same time.
In 2015 I completed a double-major in Production & Scriptwriting/ Directing at South Seas Film School in Auckland, New Zealand. In Ferbruary of 2014, I had my first (unintentional) ASMR experience.
While also having worked in the NZ film industry in Production & visual effects of a US TV series, I feel confident enough in the research I've done, the realisations I've come too (also mainly through Philosophy and Transcendental Meditation), to kickstart this documentary and take a really strong 'me' and 'you' into it! I will be Directing this 15 minute documentary, while also creating it (collaberating with other ASMRtists - please reach out!) and being the 'presenter' or 'guider' through the experience. Not focused on me, though, although I am the subject who will be taking everyone through this potential life changing experience.
This will be a non-profit self funded documentary, as I won't be paying myself for making it, and will be hiring gear from the school. The funds will go towards feeding crew (hoping for a small crew of 4/5!), transport, buying tingly items so to have a bigger range of tingles to show, and festival entries around NZ - plus other small things that could pop up in documentary film making. I don't have a goal - I would just appreciate any ASMR-fans donations, or anyones donations at all!
