This page is to help raise funds for Astrid in order to meet her living costs due to her stopping work because of her disease.
Nelson
I have started this Givealittle page for a dear friend, Astrid, who has been fighting a long battle with a blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma. Astrid started this journey five years ago with a 3 year period of remission. Her cancer returned in 2024 and a drug trial she was accepted on was effective for the past year. Sadly, the drug from the trial has stopped working for her Multiple Myeloma and whilst under the trial, Astrid developed a secondary cancer which she is currently undergoing treatment for.
Astrid's treatment protocol has meant a 6-7 week stay in Christchurch after which she will return to Nelson and begin an alternative treatment for her Multiple Myeloma, in the hopes of bringing this back under control.
The toll the cancers and treatments have taken on Astrid's general health, as well as needing to be in Christchurch for treatment, has meant Astrid needing to stop her part time work for the time being. It is unknown how long it will take her health to return to a point where she can work again and the assistance she gets is not enough to cover her living costs.
The challenges of living with her disease and undergoing taxing treatments in addition to financial burdens has caused increased stress for Astrid and her family. The goal of this page is to lift some of that stress. We fully understand times are tough for many with the cost of living going up. If you feel able to contribute, anything would be wholeheartedly appreciated. Peace and thanks
Astrid is a long time dear friend who has become like family. We have known eachother for the past twenty years.
The money raised will go towards Astrid's general living costs including mortgage payments, bills and food.
Astrid's treatment update 14 October 2025
Hello all,
Thank you so much for the generous donations towards Astrid's situation. They have helped alleviate some of her living costs so far and your generosity is greatly appreciated. I wanted to give a little update as to how things are going for her.
Astrid is on her fifth week of radiation and has needed to pause her chemotherapy as it has affected her healthy blood cells and she may need a blood transfusion to get back on her feet. The good news on that front is that the chemo has lowered her Multiple Myeloma cancer cells significantly so they hope to find the right balance after her radiation is complete. There's possibly another two weeks of a more focused radiation ahead that will be challenging for her but she continues to put one foot forward, step by step.
Astrid has been well supported by her medical team at Christchurch Hospital as well as the folks at Rainui House, a charitable organisation that has provided her accommodation whilst in Christchurch. Her family and friends have been able to spend some time with her during her stay and she's doing her best to keep spirits up.
There's still a long road ahead and her energy levels and general health have certainly been affected by her treatments which was expected. There is still no timeline for when she may be able to return to work. If you feel inclined to share her story, please feel free to do so. She is forever grateful for all of the support.
In love and gratitude
