Ava update: yesterday was treatment 15/16 - the end is in sight after a very long 6 months since diagnosis. Treatment days got changed due to clinic emergency a couple of weeks ago, not that Ava had any idea. I gave her the gabapentin before we set off - the vets have moved premises making the journey longer and across the Auckland harbour bridge.

Ava skews more stressed this time then I’ve seen her in a while - whining and shaking as we pulled uo. On a positive note she had no effects this time; her weight is stable and we are so close now.

I just wanted to thank everyone who has sent messages of love and and support over this time and for the kind donations which have helped toward the cost of her treatment. We were told initially to expect costs of around $10-$12,000 - in reality it’s almost double that.

Treatment 13 today. New address for vets today so Ava seemed a bit more anxious than normal. However, she went off with the nurse and didn’t look behind her today. Apparently she’s been really settled, quiet and calm until she heard my husbands voice and started getting vocal!

    Weight is stable.

Thank you everyone for all your support

Ava update: treatment 10 of 16 today and we feel like we’re on the home run. Ava quite chilled today and not stressed as normal. We have noticed her coat had become quite coarse and thin in places; she tends to shed this time of year normally but the chemo is definitely having an effect on her coat. The vet nurse gave a good brush and she looked much better for it.

If this is the only side effect thrn we’ve been very lucky; she’s gained another kilo too!

Ava had her 6th treatment today - 10 treatments to go.

Quite sleepy at the moment due to the sedation but she dragged another vet nurse out of the clinic again today in her rush to get to me and the car.

    Ava update:

Ava had round 4 of her chemotherapy treatment today and is currently sleeping off the sedation. When I picked her up she literally dragged the vet nurse out of the clinic and out of the front door!

Vet was pleased with her progress she has gained 1 1/2 kg; her bloods looked really good and her lymph nodes were smaller.

    Back to weekly treatments
