Baby Bowie born at 24 weeks, 685 grams
Christchurch, Canterbury
Hi everyone,
I was diagnosed with placenta accreta after a large bleed last week.
This means that my placenta had attached itself to my uterus and was unable to be attached without me bleeding out.
So the medical plan was to deliver baby Bowie by 32 weeks gestation via caserean and I would have to undergo a hysterectomy at the time of his delivery.
Monday afternoon I rushed to hospital with a very large blood loss, I had 4 blood transfusions and I lost 3 litres of blood altogether.
I was rushed to surgery and baby Bowie was born at 24 weeks gestation, weighing only 685 grams.
He is a tiny and mighty fighter and so far, he's doing as well as he can be.
I will leave hospital next Monday without my baby boy and he will be in NICU until approx December.
Tim (Arlo and Bowies Dad) lives in Australia and is only able to afford to be here to support us all for 2 weeks, as we all know life continues outside of emergencies too.
We would appreciate any and all donations that you can help us with to be able to keep Tim here in Chch with us, to help with Arlo, to help with my recovery and to be here for baby Bowie on this incredible long and challenging journey that we're embarking on.
Every dollar helps hugely and will forever be greatly appreciated!
The money will help us to keep Tim in NZ and helping to support my and Bowies recovery
4 weeks old! 28 August 2024
Baby Bowie has officially joined the 1kg club and is weighing in at 1.1433 kg!!
He finishes his anti biotics today and there is no signs of infections in his lung secretions, which is a huge relief!!!
He is still on high flow oxygen to inflate his lungs and he's been very unsettled for the last week and using more oxygen than before.
Bowie is definitely a tiny but mighty fighter!!
