This is the give a little page set up for baby Atlas Heap. Since day one he has been a little fighter, but that doesn't stop his SMILE!
Manawatu / Whanganui
This is Atlas . He is a 12month old superhero who has battled from the day he was born.
On 19th July 2016 Atlas was born. Just hours after his arrival , his parents Lauren and Ben were told Atlas was born with a rare condition called VACTRL Association.
This effects many different parts of the body including his spine, his stomach, his trachea and Oesophegus aswell as his Kidneys. Some parts are missing, other parts don't function normally or very well.
At just 24hours old Atlas has his 1st multiple surgery to start his corrective journey. Within his 1st year of life he has undergone many more repair and corrective surgeries on many different parts of his body and he is currently in Wellington Hospital recovering from his 10th surgery which included three separate procedures.
Atlas and his family have a great support network through family and friends but as Atlas has spent much of his 1st year of life in hospital, so his family don't get to spend a lot of time together. This is a condition that will be with Atlas his entire life. He unfortunately becomes unwell very easily which means he will have a challenging road ahead as well as more surgeries throughout his life.
Although Atlas is unwell, he battles everyday and with a big cheeky smile that he is well known for. We wish to give Atlas the childhood he deserves filled with happiness and health.
I have to write a blurb on how I am involved... I am involved as I am a work mate of Atlas's dad, Ben. Ben is one of the nicest people you will meet, and I wanted to do something nice for such a kind, deserving family.
Atlas makes your heart melt, he is adorable beyond words.
The use of funds will go towards Atlas's family to assist with day to day life, the upcoming trips to Wellington for future surgeries and special family adventures.
