Jai was born in a real hurry in Greymouth hospital he was suppose to be born in Christchurch Women’s Hospital but decided to come early when Jai was born he was perfect and he cried just as you would expect but that was the 1st and last cry heard from him in about 2weeks everything turned bad we new Jai had kidney failure and were told he might have smaller lungs when he was born and a 50/50 survival rate things made a turn for the worst and Jai could not breath and then got a pneumothorax in each lung the right one being so bad it had to be tubed, we where then told he was very unstable and would probably not survive the plane flight because if anything happened mid flight there would be nothing they could do as they were already giving him100% oxygen for the next week Jai stayed in a coma and had pulmonary hypertension of the lungs and heart and also a small hole in his heart with was spilling blood out of one side into the oxygenated blood, Jai then went on to have several operations like several catheters 2 nephrostomy tubes put in his back to drain his kidney as he was still so critical he had to have these done while he was awake, He then had another opp to put a stent in his urethra tube in his kidney as it was blocked, Jai progressed from here with a lot of intervention and after 3 long months in Christchurch NEO NATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT we were aloud to go home, we spent just on 2 months back at home and Jai has now got another blockage in his kidney and also got the pulmonary hypertension of his lungs and heart back so we got sent to Christchurch paediatric high dependency unit were Jai received help with his breathing we stayed in Christchurch for a week before being flown to Auckland’s Starship hospital were Jai has had another operation and we are waiting to see if he is going to be put on dialysis, Jai will need a kidney transplant at some stage but has to be 10kg before they can do it. This has been a very stressful and emotional time for us as we have 4 other kids back home and a mortgage that has to be paid not only that but supporting ourselves whilst we are up here is quite hard as well. Jai’s care will be ongoing for the rest of his life as once he has a transplant we will still be making regular visits to the kidney specialists and a kidney will only last 20 years any help at this time would be so much appreciated.
