His journey has been rough over the last week and he has been kept under as to give his body a chance to heal. He has a ventilation tube again and it appears he will need to learn to breath again as he is only taking a few breaths at a time with out support. he has more upcoming surgery and a long journey ahead of him.

Tiny twin boys Born at 23.2 weeks and weighing in at a Meer 515 grams and 540. Baby Nico is now our angel baby he will always remain with us. Baby Mason has battled through and is 124 days old so far. As a family we take things one day at a time, both celebrating Masons milestones and grieving the loss of Nico.

Mason's struggles include

Chronic lung disease, not receiving the steroids used to develop lungs till 2 months old as the doctor didn't believe either child would survive with such a low birth weight being this premature.

PDA caused by being over ventilated the valve is now open which will require surgery if it does not resolve itself.

Damage to his wind pipe and potentially his voice box.

Mason milestones so far

Surviving long enough for a doctor to give him a chance at life.

Taking a non assisted breath

Doubling his birth weight

Coming off kpac

Breathing without assistance

Learning to suck, so he can be breastfeed

Living for his first 100 days

I started this page to help cover costs. Home is a hour away from the hospital, paying for in town accommodation as to be accessible for breastfeeding, When mason comes home the family could face more costs. family have already had many costs including a funeral for Nico, they have been commuting for almost 4 months and all holiday pay, parenteral leave and bereavement leave have been exhausted.

My baby Arthur was born at 30 weeks and 860gms. While we were in NICU it felt like our lives were always going to be lived there with all of the financial, travel, parking, meal, expressing, lack of sleep stress that comes with it. We're now at home, he's thriving and even though our NICU lives were only 3 months ago, it feels like it never happened. Now we just have the "usual" baby stressors like convincing him to sleep.... Just keep telling yourselves to look forward, be mindful of your blessings, accept help and look after yourselves and each other. This blurry, mega stressful part of your lives will finish. X
