    Tēnā koutou katoa,

From the depths of our hearts, we extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who has supported the Givealittle page. Yesterday, the page closed & we are humbled and overwhelmed to share that a total of $8,255 has been raised. This incredible generosity is a true reflection of the aroha surrounding Meihana and his whānau.

We would also like to sincerely thank Givealittle for their swift response and the quick release of funds. This will make a meaningful difference for Meihana’s parents as they face an uncertain journey ahead, with no clear timeframe on how long Meihana will need to remain at Starship Children’s Hospital.

Our brave little warrior has now completed one round of chemotherapy. While he is not happy about having to stay in hospital, he is currently too unwell to return home. He continues to face ongoing painful tests and scans. Through it all, Meihana's strong spirit & deep self awareness shines through for a little boy so young.

Here at Waikiwi Papakāinga, alongside the wider Ngāi Tūpoto/North Hokianga community, we will continue to uphold Meihana and his whānau in karakia. Plans are already underway for community events to keep rallying support and ensuring the whānau feel the strength of those standing beside them.

Thank you again for your kindness, your prayers, and your unwavering support. It truly means more than words can express.

Mā te Atua koutou e manaaki, e tiaki hoki.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa.

  • Long road for Meihana

    Kia ora whānau,

Here’s a little update on our brave boy Meihana 💛

It’s been a really tough week for him at Starship. He has just completed a full week of intensive chemotherapy, and even administering the treatment has meant multiple procedures that have left him sore and in pain. He’s also been dealing with the harsh side effects of chemo and is feeling very exhausted.

Through it all, Meihana continues to show so much strength. To help lift his wairua, his mum Allanna brought in some of his favourite kai — smoked mullet, oysters, and kina. Those small comforts have brought him a bit of joy during such a hard time.

This Sunday, 29th March, Meihana turns 5 🎂 While it’s not where anyone imagined he would be celebrating, his immediate whānau will be right there with him at the hospital, making the day as special as possible and surrounding him with aroha.

We are hoping that after this round of treatment, Meihana might be well enough to leave the hospital for a day or two — even a short break would mean so much. For now, it all depends on how his body recovers.

We are so grateful for the aroha and support that continues to pour in! In just two weeks, $8,178 has been raised towards our $10,000 goal — we are so close 💛

Thank you for standing with Meihana and our whānau. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he continues this fight.

    Ngā mihi nui 🤍

Kia Ora anō e te whānau,

Ngā manaakitanga ki runga i a koutou katoa.

Meihana begins his first round of chemotherapy today.

Yesterday Meihana's CT scan showed the best news Allanna and Ryan have received about him in the last three weeks.

The tumours have reduced by 95%, and his medical team say they usually only see around 20% reduction rate ordinarily - YAAAAAY!!!

It also showed his kidneys are clear, but confirmed that he has cancer in his bone marrow.

We all believe in the power of karakia and Meihana has the strongest faith in Ngā Atua. That faith helps him make sense of what is happening to him right now, and for a little boy of four years, he is doing incredibly well navigating this difficult journey.

In just 7 days since starting this Givealittle page, we have now raised over $7,000 — leaving just under $3,000 to reach our goal. We are absolutely blown away by the aroha, generosity, and support shown by each and every one of you.

Mihi nui ki a koutou katoa. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing alongside this whānau, for your koha, your prayers, your messages, and your continued upliftment of Meihana and his loved ones.

Please continue to keep Meihana in your karakia as he begins this next phase of treatment.

He iti noa, he pounamu — even the smallest contribution is a treasure.

Ngā mihi aroha ki a koutou katoa.

    Tēna koutou katoa,

I te tuatahi e mihi ana ahau ki a koutou katoa mo o koutou aroha, manaakitanga, me te āwhina i tēnei wā uaua.

Firstly I'd like to thank you all for your care, generosity, and support during this difficult time .

Our brave little Meihana has been diagnosed with aggressive lymphoma in his kidneys, pancreas and blood.

Needless to say the news has hit us all very hard.

Doctors have said that Meihana will need to stay in Starship hospital for at least six months to undergo treatment, of which he began today.

The past week has been massive for Meihana & his whānau, and the following days and coming weeks even more so.

We want to wrap Meihana, his mum Allanna, his Dad Ryan, his brothers Manaaki, Mikaere, and Tamatekapua in the warmest, safest korowai of aroha right now.

We came together last night as a papakāinga at Meihana's whare to karakia and lift our spirits.

We know that Meihana is a strong little boy, so we are going to karakia, advocate for and celebrate Meihana until he come's home to us on his whenua.

In just two days we have raised $4,340 - almost half way thanks to the generous donations of you all; absolutely amazing!

If you can continue to share and donate that would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you all so much !

Ngā mihi maioha ki a koutou katoa.
