Backing brave Meihana while he is facing his biggest battle in Starship Hospital
Nationwide
Right now, a brave four year old little boy is fighting one of the biggest battles of his life, far from home.
Meihana, who is courageous & spirited is currently in Starship Hospital facing serious challenges.
As doctors care for him, his parents Allanna and Ryan, are doing everything they can to stay by his side.
Meihana is one of four brothers loved by us living at Waikiwi Papakāinga, in the remote North Hokianga.
Those who know him know he is usually bursting with energy. Brave, bold & always ready for adventure.
He is deeply loved by his whānau and hapū & proudly stands as one of the Tangaroa Warriors, a group of local tamariki, who help clean rubbish from the moana and waterways. Even at four years old, Meihana already shows the heart of a kaitiaki.
When he’s well, you’ll find him riding his bike, fishing, hunting possums, riding the quad bike, swimming or creating art. He’s the kind of little boy who brings joyous mischief wherever he goes.
Right now, his parents are facing extreme hardship. Starship is four and a half hours from home, meaning long travel and time away from his brothers.
We are raising funds to ease the financial pressure on Allanna & Ryan so they can focus on being there for their son. Donations will help with the costs during this time.
If you can, please consider donating or sharing. Every bit of support helps wrap this whānau in the strength of community.
Let’s stand together for Meihana, our bravest little warrior. 💙
Ngā mihi nui for your aroha and support.
I am a Waikiwi Papakāinga whānau member tasked with creating this page for our brave little Meihana. We all want Meihana to come home & be his usual mischievous haututu self. We love you so much Meihana !
We want to support Meihana's parents to be by his side & not worry about working atm so funds will help cover travel to Auckland, accommodation near the hospital, food, and everyday costs while also supporting their other three boys.
Ngā manaakitanga ki a koutou, 2 April 2026
Tēnā koutou katoa,
From the depths of our hearts, we extend our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you who has supported the Givealittle page. Yesterday, the page closed & we are humbled and overwhelmed to share that a total of $8,255 has been raised. This incredible generosity is a true reflection of the aroha surrounding Meihana and his whānau.
We would also like to sincerely thank Givealittle for their swift response and the quick release of funds. This will make a meaningful difference for Meihana’s parents as they face an uncertain journey ahead, with no clear timeframe on how long Meihana will need to remain at Starship Children’s Hospital.
Our brave little warrior has now completed one round of chemotherapy. While he is not happy about having to stay in hospital, he is currently too unwell to return home. He continues to face ongoing painful tests and scans. Through it all, Meihana's strong spirit & deep self awareness shines through for a little boy so young.
Here at Waikiwi Papakāinga, alongside the wider Ngāi Tūpoto/North Hokianga community, we will continue to uphold Meihana and his whānau in karakia. Plans are already underway for community events to keep rallying support and ensuring the whānau feel the strength of those standing beside them.
Thank you again for your kindness, your prayers, and your unwavering support. It truly means more than words can express.
Mā te Atua koutou e manaaki, e tiaki hoki.
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa.
