Bahrain Bound: Smash, Serve, Support!

I’ve been selected to represent New Zealand at the 2025 Para Badminton World Championships in Bahrain — an opportunity I’m incredibly proud of, and one that means more to me than just competing. I am passionate about growing this sport in New Zealand, and believe New Zealand players showcased at international events, let alone a World Championships help achieve this.

This championship is the highest level of competition in the sport, and being chosen is a huge honour. However, as with many para sports, the costs sit with the athletes. Altogether, this comes to around $6,000, which is a significant personal barrier. The World Championships are being held from the 8th-14th of February, which does not leave a lot of time to self fund this opportunity. This opportunity has come from my recent success in the Oceania & Australian International Para Badminton Championships.

I value providing pathways for younger generations to follow, especially in the disability sport space. What New Zealand achieves on the world stage helps flow down to entry level opportunities, and could inspire someone to pick up a racquet, which is part of the legacy I wish to contribute to Para Badminton in New Zealand.
