Basil the cat needs treatment to prevent him going into Renal Failure and impending death, please donate to keep him alive!
Auckland
My name is Genevieve and I'm a student from New Zealand. I took in Basil from his second owner after they moved and his companion died violently. Turns out Basil had never been micro-chipped, vaccinated, he had never been brushed and threw up hairballs with his food meaning he was always hungry, he had an ear infection and needed teeth extractions from blackened gums.
More long term though Basil's blood results showed Renal disease and he was promptly put on a renal diet and monitored with blood tests to prevent kidney failure. Recently, through a specialist referral an ultrasound found he had developed a cyst on each kidney approx 3x the size of each kidney and will need a procedure to eliminate the cysts and test the fluids. He will also need a further blood test, an urinalysis and culture (lab) and an echocardiogram. These are incredibly expensive though and have come extremely suddenly.
I've so far paid $72.50 for the referring vet, $585 for the ultrasound and specialist consult (which I sourced from my Student Loan). The procedure has been priced at (for Wednesday 28 September) $774.90. But still thereafter (approx 12 October, 2016) Basil will need $527.85 further for the blood test, and Urinalysis and Culture, and $380 for the Echocardiogram.
Basil is my first cat after 15 years of yearning, he's got a wonderful soul and is absolutely perfect. He's definitely not had a great life, up until he came to me - I know he's not ready to leave this world and I believe that he's got many years ahead of him at only age 6. I've never loved like I do Basil and he's my favourite being and best friend, he's brought unimaginable happiness to many lives despite his hardship.
Please see what you can do, Basil and I will be eternally grateful and he'd literally owe you his life as without these treatments he will go into renal failure and die.
Basil returns from surgery 28 September 2016
Basil had his procedure today and what a poor darling, as it was delayed by about 3-4 hours and because he was under sedation and needed an ultrasound as part of the procedure he hadn't eaten since 8pm Tuesday and no water since before 7am. But he was so good, stopped shaking at the vet immediately when I picked him up for a cuddle and was quiet all the way home. Now he's a bit more shaved, has a fabulous pink bandage from the drip and is resting by the heater after feasting on wet food.
Next Basil needs an echocardiogram, bloods and a urinalysis and culture. This should cost $907.85.
