The old Tipsy Oyster building on Kings Road in Paihia is set to burst into new life on the 18th Nov 2022. Meraki Hub Paihia is developing into a much needed community facility that will Initiate projects that benefit the local young people, community members and local businesses.
Different collaborative whānau-based kaupapa will aim to strengthen our community and rangatahi of tomorrow who learn from home and school children alongside community partnerships. It will provide development opportunities for members of the Bay of Islands community and rangatahi wanting to upskill or try new life skills, creative and enterprise projects and will host, business, cultural, arts, education and community facilities from one head quarters and using the surrounding area. The facility will also be operate as a drop in centre - where the kettle will always be on. Meraki Home learners Mon - Fri 9am - 3pm (2 x programs per day) / After School Activities 3:30-5:30pm / Community workshops (2 per week Hours will vary).
Michele (Shell) Wilson, who is heading the project, about her aspirations for the centre; "My vision for the hub is that it is a positive and safe space for our community to collaborate and skill share to inspire, engage and connect our community from all walks of life with daily, weekly, monthly workshops, programs, talks, presentations and show case these at a community event Jan 3rd to celebrate Summer and July 14th 2023 to Celebrate Matariki on the Village Green Paihia".
Start up operational costs for the next 10 weeks for the new site while we apply for funding $750 p/w = rent/utilities $550 p/w = 2 x facilitators $200 p/w = resources/kai/excursions.
Each pledge = a piece of awhi wood for mosaic donor wall art for hub.
