10 month old Bear needs a double hip replacement.
Nationwide
This is Bear; he is our 10 month old Labrador/Huntaway. Unfortunately last week our boy was diagnosed with the worst case of Hip Dysplasia our vet has seen in a dog his age. Because he is still technically a puppy they can’t operate until he is fully grown. We’re facing about $18,000 to give him a full Hip Replacement or about $9000 per hip. We have pet insurance but they won’t cover hereditary conditions that show themselves before he’s 3 years old. He is the most beautiful friendly boy you could meet and loves nothing more than having a cuddle and giving everyone he meets a big smooch. He is full of energy but is starting to struggle with going for walks and getting in and out of the car. He loves sleeping on beds but needs more and more help around. He tries to soldier on but we can see he is struggling. Our vet has said that he will be here for a good time not a long time without treatment. He is our special boy who is very close to our hearts and deserves to live a long and happy life without struggling with everyday tasks like getting up to go to the toilet. Dogs give such unconditional love and it’s our chance to give some quality of life back to him. It seems like a long shot but if we could just get $1 from 9000 people that’s one new hip for him, even better if we could do both but hopefully with one fixed it will slow the deterioration of the other. He is still so young and is ensured to have a full recovery from surgery. All we want is our beautiful boy to live a long and happy life; we would appreciate any help that we could get.
Update on Bear 18 March 2015
Just a quick update on our boy, as this page has been quite neglected over the last few very busy months.
First off thank you so so much to everyone that has donated so far and has shared Bears page with their family and friends.
On Tuesday December 9th 2014 Bear underwent a Hip Replacement in his left side. He spent just shy of a week at VSG Carrington Animal Hospital being closely monitored by an amazing team of nurses and surgeons l who did an excellent job of keeping him comfortable and happy. After being crated for 6 weeks, I don't know if that was harder on him or us, his surgeon couldn't be happier with his progress so far. We have already noticed such an improvement in Bears movements and he seems a lot happier with his new titanium hip.
That being said we would still love to have his right side operated on, hence this page still going, so he is as good as new and to keep him pain free for the rest of his long life.
I've added a few more photos of his recovery to the album.
Again, thank you so so much for the donations so far! :)
