Heather has been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer - this page is to support her to receive game-changing immunotherapy treatment.
Wellington
In March, Heather found a lump. One became two, two became three - and a cascade of appointments (and excruciating waits) ensued.
After weeks of wondering, our worst fears were confirmed. It was cancer - and an aggressive one at that. Stage 3 'triple negative' breast cancer - meaning a number of drugs that can be used to fight other cancers, won't work for Heather's.
She now faces a rough year of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy, far from her Scottish home and family.
The good news is there is an immunotherapy drug - Pembrolizumab - that the Oncologists' have advised will significantly increase her likelihood of kicking this cancer in the butt. The bad news is this drug isn’t funded in New Zealand, leaving Heather staring down the barrel of a $116,000 (over £60,000) medical bill,
We are setting up this page as a place to contribute to the cost of this game-changing treatment, as no one should have to choose between their health and their financial security.
Heather is brave and vibrant - a friend, an advocate, a confidant, a cheerleader - and way too damn young to be fighting this particular battle. She has supported many through their own hardships and I know that there are many of us that would like the opportunity to support her through this one.
Any and all help is gratefully accepted.
Heather is a dear dear friend.
