Belongings lost from Wellington Flood

I was renting at Ōwhiro Bay

when flood hit at 4am Monday 20 April.

Unfortunately I was trapped with no exit as water was rising. A neighbour saw me on deck calling for help but couldn’t help me alone so got help from another neighbour.

They waded through deep water to reach me but I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to get over high deck railing.

I tried and they pulled me over and helped me to safety. They risked their own wellbeing in the freezing cold water.

I lost all my furniture/belongings and car and didn’t have personal insurance to cover furniture.

I’ve been struggling with trauma and haven’t been able to get counselling still.

I’ll need to find another place to rent that I can afford and start over.

The whole thing was terrifying and I’m exhausted to start over.
