Ben is raising funds as he was recently selected in a New Zealand hockey team.
Wellington
I've been playing hockey since I was in nappies. After many years of training and competing, I'm raising funds as I recently attended the 2019 Masters Trans-Tasman Challenge where I pulled on the black shirt for NZ in my first international appearance.
The tournament took place on the Gold Coast from the 30th April to 5th May 2019. I was lucky enough to have the support of my wife to attend but I still have a way to go to pay off the debt. Due to the short amount of time to fundraise I have been able to extend this page to allow further fundraising to continue.... however I need your support!
Competing in masters sport means there is unfortunately very little funding available so I'm having to employ a range of fundraising methods.
I am self-funded and this is burdened by the fact in the months leading up to the tournament, I had taken on the role of stay-at-home dad to my 13 month old. Being at home is something that is special for me but also brings large financial challenges. On completion of the tournament I have since made the decision to return to full-time employment to cover child care costs.
It was a great honour to represent NZ and was my first time playing at an international level and is something that doesn't come round very often. In 2018 I was selected in the same squad to attend the World Cup in Spain but the team was withdrawn from the tournament due to a range of factors outside my control.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my story and appreciate anything you are able to contribute.
Funds will be used for travel, uniform and accommodation
If things don't go to plan, this money will be used to further my hockey career and attend future tournaments.
Almost on the plane... 26 April 2019
One more sleep till I I fly out... excited!. However I’ve still got a way to go... I need to keep the fundraising going to reach my goal. Because of the short amount of time (of when the team was selected and the tournament) I’ve increased the life of this page so I continue raising funds. Thanks to everyone who got in early to support my fundraising efforts. I’ll keep you all updated as I arrive on the Gold Coast.
