Help print and launch a book on the history of the diverse suburb of Berhampore which we are writing as a fundraiser for the local school.
Wellington
UPDATE NOVEMBER 2015: The book has been published and is now available for purchase! Please see the updates section of this page for more information.
Berhampore Primary, a small school in the Southern suburbs of Wellington, turns 100 this year. To mark this event and raise funds for classroom resources, a small dedicated group of parents are writing a history of the school and suburb.
Enormous numbers of voluntary hours have been put into researching archives, interviewing past and present residents, and writing up the initial chapters, and we are unearthing a lot of fascinating material.
All work on the book has been provided for free, however we need funds to allow us to pay for archival images, and to print the book.
We have generously been given a grant by Wellington City Council which covers the majority of our printing costs, and have raised some money with second hand bookstalls, but we need a little more to achieve this and to allow us to print in colour, which would do justice to some of the wonderful photos we have been given or that we hope to purchase.
If we reach our goal of $1500 we will be able to make the book available in colour.
If your kind donations exceed this amount we will be able to purchase more historical photographs to share in the book, and we will be able to launch and market the book to ensure it is a successful fundraiser for the school and reaches the community which has driven its creation.
In the case that your generosity exceeds even these needs, we will put the money into a fund for phase two of the project which we intend to be a website showcasing the material which was not able to fit into the book format and further engaging the community by encouraging interaction and collaboration via the site. We will be starting from scratch with funding for this as we have promised all proceeds from the book to the school.
Note: In the event that the website phase of the project does not proceed for any reason, we will donate any excess funds to Berhampore School.
We’re all very excited to see this resource come to life in the best quality possible. Every little bit will help this happen, so thank you for any donation you are able to make!
