Beth’s fundraiser for her final surgery!
Auckland
Hey! My names Beth and I’m 23. I was diagnosed with a cholesteatoma in 2014 which was removed but unfortunately was undetected and regrew until my second surgery in 2021, this second surgery was major, the cholesteatoma (acts like a tumour) had eaten its way into my skull and the surgery itself left me deaf in one ear, unable to fly again, was pretty traumatic and was unfortunately not done correctly. I have now found out that I have had another regrowth and need a third surgery. I have seen a top ENT surgeon here in NZ and he is confident that this should hopefully be my last surgery. Being English, I do not qualify for Nz NHS and I have been advised I need surgery within the next 3-6 months, long haul flights are not advised so I can’t go home for surgery, but the cost here is extremely expensive. I have seen a lot of specialists and they have recommended getting it done here privately and that they are confident this will be my last surgery. This condition has made my early twenties incredibly challenging and to be free of this illness would be life changing for me.
25% of the proceeds will go towards Auckland Deaf Society who are an amazing organisation who provide support to the deaf community here in Aoteroa and 25% will be going to Deaf Aoteroa, another amazing organisation who do great work.
Me and a few of my incredible friends are now running the Omaha half marathon to raise money for my surgery and we would be so thankful for any donations 🤍xx
25% of the funds will go to Auckland Deaf Society
25% of the funds will go to Deaf Aoteroa
The other 50% will go towards the $27,169 cost of surgery. If we don’t meet the target the money will still go towards Auckland Deaf Society, Deaf Aotearoa and my surgery :)
