This year I will be representing New Zealand at an international biology competition for secondary students in the UK in July.
Auckland
The International Biology Olympiad is a competition for secondary students from around the world to compete in both theory and practical exams. This year I am a part of a team of four students who will be representing New Zealand.
To get into this team I studied from a textbook and various online learning platforms over my last two summer holidays and every weekend over my last two term ones.
I then attended a practical training camp both years with about 20 other biology students where we were taught and tested on practical skills. My favourites were the dissections, microscopy, and a gel electrophoresis (DNA stuff)! We also got to do cool field trips to Tiritiri Matangi island and Kelly Tarltons.
The top four students from the camps were then selected from both the practical and theory exams that we sat and I am so excited to be a part of that team for this year!
